Firstly, Happy New Year to all our Poisers, parents and visitors!
We might have only just started 2014. But as we look forward at the coming year most will notice Valentines Day looming on the horizon.
Whilst the occasion is certain to divide opinion. Some happily lavishing their loved one with gifts and affection. While others prefer to bemoan the need for a holiday which seems to serve no purpose other than to encourage the profiteering of corporates and advertisers.
Either way, there’s no doubt that the February 14th date can often cause headaches for parents and teens alike. Both in terms of conjuring up original Valentines Day ideas. And then working out what to do with the children when you finally arrange to spend an evening together by yourself.
With those two issues in mind, we’re helping you out this month by taking a look at some potential romantic spots for you to spend Valentines Day in Tunbridge Wells.
Then we will be asking for YOUR help in suggesting some local Kent babysitters; on what’s sure to be one of the best nights of the year to earn some extra cash if you’re a responsible teen.
Hopefully we can make this somewhat of a resource for a stress free Valentines! Oh, and a quick disclaimer: we’ve leaned towards Italian restaurants here (there is something inherently romantic about them – we blame Lady and the Tramp). Other types of food are available!
Good Restaurants for Valentines Day in Tunbridge Wells
La Familia – Mount Ephraim
Price: £7 – £18
Pizza might not seem the most romantic of meals but when it’s created by the Super Tops UK Pizza Chef of the Year 2013 it’s slightly more special. All food is cooked with fresh ingredients using traditional Italian methods.
Palio – Grosvenor Road
Price: £10 – £30
A staple of the Tunbridge Wells restaurant scene, Palio’s is well known for its hearty Italian fare and signature Steak Rossini dish. The staff have been known to move at a slower pace than some. Though this can be good for a drawn out romantic meal for two.
Il Vesuvio – Camden Road
Price: £10 – £30
An authentic Italian experience in the heart of Kent. Rated as the top Italian restaurant in Tunbridge Wells on TripAdvisor. Always very busy, which is a great sign, but be sure to book in advance!
Signor Franco – High Street
Sitting at the higher end of the price scale is a real Tunbridge Wells favourite. Out of all the restaurants in Tunbridge Wells Signor Franco’s has one of the best settings. Making it an ideal spot for that special Valentines meal.
Alternative Valentines Day Ideas
Cook! We’re spoilt for choice with regards to sourcing fresh local produce. There’s plenty of great butchers locally. Make a special meal at home, at your own pace. It’s usually cheaper than going out, and more intimate.
Or don’t even celebrate on Valentines Day. Maybe you can’t get away from work on time, or you are struggling to book a table and don’t want to pay over inflated prices? Why not have your own Valentines Day on a date that suits you better?
What not to do: we’re big on communication and personal interaction here at Poise. You might have noticed? As such, a big no-no for us is a Cinema date (we’re looking at you teenagers!).
Valentines day is about remembering why you’ve chosen to be with the person you’re with and celebrating that fact. Don’t spoil it by sitting in a dark room where you can’t see each other, let alone have a conversation.
